Assistant Manager

The Assistant Manager will support the Manager in all aspects of store operations, and will provide guidance in team operations including profitability, expense control, inventory control, buying, merchandising, labor and regulatory compliance and special projects as assigned.  The ideal candidate will have previous store operations experience (Inventory, Cost Control, Pricing, Merchandising, Labor Management, Employee relations).
Qualifications
Ideal candidates must have good verbal communication skills and a professional demeanor. Candidate must be personable, guest service driven, self-motivated and must be able to stand for long periods of times.  This individual will assist the manager in the following areas:
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support the Manager and Owners in all areas of operations (inventory, safety, merchandising, financial, etc), and analysis of sales reports and labor.
  • Maintain creative store layout and product merchandising.
  • Select, train, develop, mentor, motivate, and counsel staff in a manner that builds and sustains a high-performance team and minimizes turnover.
  • Assist in timely, thorough, and thoughtful performance evaluations.
  • Uphold and communicate owner expectations and standards to all staff.
  • Resolve staff concerns or issues.
  • Foster a positive environment of outstanding teamwork, mutual respect, and exceptional morale.
  • Serve as point person in absence of the Manager and Owners.
  • Inspect the facility, on a daily basis, to ensure compliance with all programs, rules and standards.
  • Maintain knowledge and proficiency of all Front of House and Back of House stations.
  • Be willing and able to fill-in and lend a hand when needed.
  • Safely and effectively operate all tools and equipment (coffee machine, slicer, etc.)
  • Address customer concerns appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Balance the books, ensure deposits to banks, on a daily basis.
  • Develop and maintain good vendor relationships.
  • Ensure that all paperwork is properly submitted for vendor processing.
  • Maintain awareness of customer flow and needs and direct staff as necessary.
  • Understand and receive certifications in foods, sanitation, allergen, TIPS, etc.
  • Understand Material Safety DataSheets handbooks and implement their use.
  • Consistently communicate and model Isabel’s mission and goals.
 
Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal, motivational, team building and leadership skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • High energy, enthusiastic, and displays an affinity for our products, core values, and business philosophy.
  • Growth mindset towards greater responsibility (e.g., managerial).
  • Demonstrate advanced product knowledge and develop/maintain awareness of new products.
  • Advanced knowledge of regulatory and safety policies and procedures.
  • Proficient mathematical skills for assessing financial performance, monitoring profitability, and managing inventory.
  • Demonstrated decision-making ability, leadership skills, and ability to prioritize and delegate.
  • Proficiency with email, Microsoft Office, and operations-related applications (e.g., POS). 
  • Ability to multi-task, show excellent follow-through and see the big picture.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. 
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds. 
  • Ability to work in hot, cold and wet environments which will consist of the following temperature fluctuations: <32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), >90 degrees Fahrenheit. 
  • Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals. 
 
Education and/or Experience
  • High School Diploma, or equivalent, required; Associates Degree in a related field preferred.
  • 1-2 years of related experience.
  • Previous store operations experience preferred.
 
Schedule
  • Full-time.
  • Weekend and evening hours required.
  • Weekly schedule may vary.

Compensation
  • $16.50 – $19.50/hour, depending on experience.
