Cook

We are pleased to announce this position has been filled.

The Cook will organize all kitchen activities, oversee the many diverse aspects of the eatery, and will assist with the staffing of the kitchen. The Cook will develop menu offerings, forecast supply needs and estimate costs. The Cook is expected to ensure the Market + Eatery adheres to all regulations, including sanitary and safety guidelines.

Qualifications
Ideal candidates must have good verbal communication skills and a professional demeanor. They must be self-motivated, able to stand for long periods of times, be personable and guest service driven.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Ability to lead and direct daily operations, delivering consistency and an excellent product.
• Coordinate with Manager/Assistant Manager on product selection.
• Responsible for providing product order, inventory, and cost of items to the Manager/Assistant Manager.  Submit ordering needs in a timely manner. 
• Decide on labor matrix: supervise the complete set-up of line, including pre-production, placement of items, storage of items, etc.
• Decide on appropriate shifts and production management per shift.
• Train all other prep cooks on proper recipes, techniques and procedures.
• Suggest and create new recipes.
• Oversee catering orders and implement into prep lists.
• Assure that deadlines and timelines are met.
• Safely and effectively operate all tools and equipment (ovens, slicer, etc.).
• Ability to effectively communicate in spoken and written form in order to perform/follow position requirements.

• Maintain food safety and quality standards, and follow allergy-related food issues.
• Comply with all safety and sanitation rules.
• Read and understand staff handbook and follow procedures/policies accordingly.
• Maintain a clean and orderly work environment, and keep the area stocked, clean and looking crisp.
• Understand MSDS sheets and cleaning procedures.
• Attend Isabel’s Market + Eatery team meetings, when applicable and necessary.
• Be a team player.

 
Physical Demands

• Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. 
• Ability to stand/walk for an entire shift and move safely and cautiously throughout the Isabel’s space.
• Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds (i.e., stocking shelves).
• Ability to be organized and multi-task calmly and effectively in a busy and sometimes hectic and stressful environment.
• Work positively in a confined space with varying temperature levels.
• Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals. 

Schedule

• Part-time.
• Weekend and evening hours required.
• Weekly schedule may vary.

Education and/or Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent required, Associates Degree in Culinary Arts preferred.
• 2-3 years of relevant experience preferred, including experience as a line cook or in food preparation.
• Experience in production, scheduling, ordering, inventory, etc.
• Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
• Good time management skills.
• Professional attitude and appearance.
• Experience/knowledge using computer programs and office equipment, including POS.

Compensation

• $13 – $16/hour, depending on experience.
